PEOPLE POWER and the LAITY
On February 25, 2026, Commission on the Laity joined the Archdiocese of Capiz in celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the People's Power Revolution. It was an afternoon of prayer, reflection, and renewed commitment, seeking once more to let the legacy of People Power reign in our hearts and in our nation — to heal the shattered hopes born from the struggle to topple dictatorship and uproot corruption.
In this gathering we humbly ask forgiveness for having forgotten what we once fought for. At times, we have grown complacent and indifferent to the injustices unfolding in our society. We have allowed corruption to persist and political dynasties to entrench themselves, compromising the dignity of our people and deepening the wounds of poverty.
In this celebration, we choose remembrance over indifference, vigilance over apathy, and courage over fear — so that the spirit of People Power may rise again, not only as a memory of the past, but as a living call to conscience and action.
The Laity, often called the “sleeping giant” of the Church, must awaken and take a courageous stand against corruption, for its heavy price is the poverty and misery of our people. When corruption thrives, it robs the poor of opportunity, distorts justice, and wounds the very soul of our nation.
If we allow corruption, injustice, and oppression to reign in our society, we fail to live out the love of God — a love that calls us not to silence, but to action; not to indifference, but to solidarity. God has raised us from the darkness of past evils and entrusted us with the responsibility to build a just and compassionate community.
To remain passive is to fall short of our Christian vocation. To stand for truth and righteousness is to become instruments of God’s healing and renewal in our time.
Let this be our act of synodality — walking together in faith, conscience, and responsibility — to build a nation worthy of its people and a society grounded in integrity and moral courage.
May our shared discernment and collective action shape a country where justice is upheld, truth is defended, and every Filipino can live with dignity and hope.
